Invisalign® Q & A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an FDA-approved, state-of-the-art orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear, removable oral aligners to gradually move and straighten your teeth.

Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign aligners fit snugly over the surface of your teeth, making them almost invisible. There’s no metal involved either. Invisalign uses a thermoplastic known as SmartTrack®. SmartTrack is comfortable to wear and free of allergens including BPS, BPA, latex, and gluten.

What orthodontic issues can Invisalign correct?

The team at Nu Dimensions Dental typically recommends Invisalign oral aligners for people with mild or moderate orthodontic issues including:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite
  • Crowded teeth

Invisalign aligners can also address gaps or spaces between your teeth.

How does Invisalign treatment work?

Everyone’s smile is unique, so Invisalign starts with an in-office consultation. First, your dentist performs an oral exam and reviews your medical history. Next, your dentist uses a digital scanner to take images of your teeth and gums. Your dentist sends this information to a laboratory that manufactures your custom aligners.

Every one to two weeks, you’ll return to Nu Dimensions Dental to pick up a new set of aligners. Each new set of aligners gently and gradually shift your teeth into place.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

The length of Invisalign treatment varies from person to person and depends on the severity of the issues you’re trying to correct. On average, Invisalign takes 12-18 months, but many people start noticing significant improvements in their smile right away.

Is it okay if I take my Invisalign aligners out?

Yes. If you have a big event like a wedding or a job interview, you can leave your Invisalign aligners at home. However, you don’t want to make this a regular habit. In order to achieve the best possible results, you need to wear your Invisalign aligners between 20-22 hours every day.

How do I care for my Invisalign aligners?

Caring for your Invisalign aligners is easy and hassle-free. To prevent the build-up of food particles and bacteria, remove them before every meal. You should also brush them with toothpaste at least once each day. For more thorough cleanings, ask your Nu Dimensions Dental provider about the Invisalign Cleaning System.
